The biggest disadvantage of adoptions is the pain that accompanies the decision. When adoptions close, there are typically many unanswered questions for both the birth mom and the adoptive family; in turn there are unanswered questions for the child. When questions go unanswered, the result is usually fear, resentment, bitterness; just a series of avoidable situations. Open adoptions provide the atmosphere necessary for healing, for creating lifelong bonds and friendships. Adoption may not be for everyone except those who choose adoption; they should choose an open adoption. Is adoption a lifelong journey? Absolutely!
