Poverty has existed in the Philippines for over 50 years. In the Philippines, year after year, they experience natural disasters such as typhoons, causing continuous hardship for farmers. Problems with growing food can also cause people to go hungry and be unable to purchase groceries. Charities can donate to support the Philippines in its crisis into poverty. People need to do everything they can to stop poverty in the Philippines by doing so many different things to help Filipinos. There are also many things that cause poverty. In the Philippines, typhoons constantly strike and cause destruction of their homes and other buildings. This causes Filipinos to pay for the damage to be repaired, which costs a lot of money. This is what natural disasters have to do with poverty. Sometimes Filipinos have volcanic activities that could explode and damage their cities too. Charities use their donations to help pay for the destruction. Even if people don't donate to support the cause of poverty. According to the East Asia Forum, “The food crisis that occurred in 2008 has dragged the poor into an even more desperate situation.” (Reyes and Tabuga). Food crises are making poverty ever deeper in the country. Chronically poor people in the Philippines were not always poor, they became poor due to some shocks or crises. Most of the poor are temporary poor. Most people who experience a decline in their income are people engaged in agricultural activities. Farmers have been hit by typhoons causing them to struggle constantly. In the past, new organizations or charities have been created to support or stop a cause. Urban poverty decreased the most between 1985 and 2006. “Among these years, the greatest reduction in the level of urban poverty occurred between 1994 (24.0%) and 1997 (17.9%): a vivid reduction of 6.1%". (FocusOnPoverty.org) .In conclusion, poverty in the Philippines can be prevented or stopped. With all these facts and ways to stop poverty, everyone could contribute.
