It was a bright and cheerful morning when Zane awoke in the castle. It had been two years since he had said goodbye to Josselyn to save her, yet he was still no closer to returning to her. She can only imagine how furious and worried she must be. Zane still doesn't know why he has the same magical abilities as the shadow men. The shadow men had trained him and tested his abilities, but nothing had come of it. They spoke softly enough that he couldn't hear them and left the room whenever he entered. His frustration was starting to drive him crazy. He just wants answers, but no one will give him any; they don't even talk to him. They always kept him locked in his room unless he was training or undergoing tests. His room was nice enough; with lots of windows for light, a large bed padded with fine linens, and a spacious living area to walk around in, but had nothing to do during free time. The only entertainment he had was a bookshelf filled with many books and a pen with a notebook. For the past two years Zane had looked through all the books, but had never sat down to read one. He figured important details would jump out at him, even if he had no idea what he was looking for. He wanted to write letters to Josselyn but what could he say? “sorry, I left you two years ago and I have nothing to prove” or “how are you?” I'm fine, I'm not learning anything and I have no reason to leave you." A knock on the door jolted Zane out of his daydreams. He stood up and opened the heavy wooden door. In front of him was a shadow man. It was the same shadow man who came every morning. As usual, Zane greeted him, but received no response in return. They then walk down the f...... middle of paper ...... t to thank him for helping his father during his absence. When she entered R's room, he was stunned by her beauty. She had long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He looked at R as if he could see his soul. He fell in love with her at that moment and realized that he couldn't leave her. Her name was even more magical, Evangeline. Zane dropped the book. He stared at the wall with his mouth open with a thought running through his head. She's his mother and R must be his father! It repeated itself over and over in his head. The door opened and a shadow man appeared. He motioned for Zane to come. Zane refused and attempted to pick up the book, but before he could reach it the book flew into the shadow man's hands. Zane screamed in anger. He wanted to keep reading and find out more about his father. Two more shadow men appeared, dragging Zane screaming from the room.
