Later in the book Whisty and Whit discover their powers and train to rebel against the NO and the One Who Is That. The text states: “Let's review: 1. I, everyday Wisty, am a witch. Whitboard-tummy is a wizard. We don't know exactly how to control our powers. 2. Whit and I were sentenced to death by an insidious individual called The One Who Is The One. 3. And my parents are wanted for treason. And we still have no idea where they are, or whether they are still alive. 4. We were tortured in a prison that dulls magic. So maybe we are more powerful than we think. 5. A dead girl, who happened to be the true love of my brother's young life, mysteriously showed up and saved us from prison. 6. I turned Byron Swain into a weasel. I am very proud of this. 7. The world is actually plural, not singular. Between Shadowland, Freeland, Overworld and Underworld, it's hard not to lose count. 8. And one of these worlds is run by a group of guys... from the manager's desk of a half-demolished department store. It's not heaven, but at least it's a place where freedom still reigns. 9.
