Education enables people to be able to support themselves in the future by finding a job. Many jobs in today's society require some type of education. In order for people to support themselves financially they need some kind of basic education. Education can also be a ladder that allows the poor to work their way up in society towards a financially stable life. Education is also important because a person needs to distinguish right from wrong to live in society. Additionally, being culturally and socially educated helps people better connect with other people without judgment or ignorance towards them. While there are ways to succeed and gain power, education is most successful in empowering us financially, morally, culturally, and socially. Getting an education can financially empower a person. Many jobs in today's society require not only a high school diploma, but also a college degree. Even just getting a high school diploma will make a difference to a person when they are trying to find a job. Horace Mann, author of The Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education, states: “For the creation of wealth, therefore, – for the existence of a rich people and a rich nation, – intelligence is the fundamental condition” ( 121). In order to financially support yourself and your family it is essential to have a reliable and stable job that a person can obtain through an education. There is a lot of competition in America for good jobs and to get certain positions, and having an education will allow a person to be chosen for positions. It will also allow a person to secure the job they get so they don't have to worry about starting all over again. There are many clubs and organizations that a student can join and feel comfortable where they can learn how to make friends and talk to people. There are also courses in speech offered in many schools and colleges, so that a student can learn how to speak to people correctly in front of a crowd without getting nervous or feeling shy. This can be empowering because knowing how to speak to people is essential for struggling in today's world. Ultimately, education empowers us in many ways. Without an education people would not be able to support themselves financially. It would also be difficult for society to engage if people never learned the values ​​and social norms of everyday life. Education can empower us even in the smallest ways, like learning to speak to people correctly. Without an education a person would not be able to flourish and thrive in the world.
