Time passes as fast as lightning. So for some students, four years would seem like a short time because it went by in the blink of an eye. Teachers are debating whether to extend high school to five years. Some say it should last five years due to increasing demand for students from employers. Others say it's not necessary because students would lose interest. High school should last five years because it would give them more time they need and because it would help students become more mature. Extending high school to five years would be a good idea because it would give students much-needed extra time. Students have many credits needed to graduate, and getting them all can be very stressful. For example, for each incoming freshman they need more credits than a person who was a freshman last year would need. So with that extra year it would give students more than enough time. Plus, with that extra time they would have more time to do extracurricular activities. With these extracurricular activities it would help them collect credits which would help them increase their need for credits or maybe even start getting credits for college. It would also give them more time to get help in a class they are struggling with. If they have difficulty, they can get additional help from a teacher or take a course specific to the grade in which they need help. For example, a course like Reading 180 that offers students extra help in English. Therefore, extending high school to five years would be a good idea because it would give students the time they really need. High school should also be extended to five years because this would also help them become more mature. One year can go a long way from a maturity perspective. For example, if you think about what you were like a year ago, you might say that you were almost a completely different person. This could be an advantage for the college because if students are more mature they will be more responsible. This is very important for college because in college you are pretty much on your own and no one will remind you what you should or shouldn't do, it all depends on you and your decisions. Also, be more prepared for college.
