What is a Puppy Mill, How are the animals at Puppy Mills. Animals are severely neglected by their owners. Responsible farming practices end up killing. The animals are mistreated and are usually left to die without food, water or even locked in a cage. Puppy mills operate throughout the United States. After having reproduced a certain number of times, they do not have time to recover and are no longer able to reproduce, often being killed. Puppy mills typically house dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, without care, food, water and socialization. Puppy dogs may not experience treats, toys, exercise or basic grooming. To minimize waste cleanup, dogs are often kept in cages with a metal floor that injures their paws and legs, and it is not unusual for cages to be stacked in columns. Dogs raised in mills might spend their entire lives outdoors, exposed to the elements, or crammed inside filthy facilities where they never get a chance to feel the sun or breathe fresh air.
