Unfortunately, the rapid evolution and exponential growth rates of electronic websites have caused many companies to embrace the technology without fully understanding the ramifications and control issues involved. (Greenstein2002) Due to media advertising promoting websites that can save money on shipping and handling or selling name brand accessories at a lower price has caused identity theft. Managing personal information on a computer with weak firewalls, which are easy targets for hackers, is therefore equivalent to stealing personal information. On the web server side, cookies are able to store information about users, keep track of the number of visits, the duration of the visit and even know how many times the user has clicked on certain elements of the site.
