Jehovah's Witnesses You may have heard of them, most likely in a derogatory way. They may have visited you once or twice, but does anyone really know who the "Jehovah's Witnesses" are? In the early 1870s, an inconspicuous Bible study group, now known as Jehovah's Witnesses, began in Pennsylvania, USA. I was intrigued to learn that Jehovah is the personal name of God. 'Yahweh', translated as 'Jehovah' appears nearly seven thousand times in the original Hebrew Scriptures, yet most Bibles today replace it with 'God' or 'Lord'. A book of Psalms presented to all the seventh grade students at my school contained a passage that referred to “Jehovah.” This was literally crossed out and written on it was simply “Sir.” Contrary to popular belief, Jehovah's Witnesses are not a cult. They are simply an organization that is dedicated to God and whose primary concern is the well-being of others. They believe that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is also surprisingly historically accurate. All Jehovah's Witnesses look forward to the paradise they believe will come after Armageddon. They preach the word of God's Kingdom by visiting people's homes and distributing magazines and tracts. This is the main criticism they receive; yet teaching these beliefs is a commandment from God and the altruistic reason they preach. They want others to be able to share this paradise. I suppose my interest grew so gradually that I was almost unaware of it, and before I knew it I was forced to learn more fascinating insights into a book I had long ignored along with the rest. of the world. Having been persuaded... middle of paper... men are born with the instinct to migrate in winter. Bats use sonar, eels create electricity, and seagulls can desalinate seawater. Coincidence? The human eye is one of the most complex shapes known. It is unlikely that we developed the eye by chance, considering that even the most ingenious machine will never be able to recognize objects by sight. It is much more likely that these extraordinary everyday things were deliberately meant to be this way, rather than by pure chance. Most people seem to find these theories and suggestions much easier to believe than the concept of the existence of a Creator, capable of performing many miracles. However, true or not, it is evident that with this book the Bible conveys a sense of peace, well-being and happiness to those who study its words, something that I believe is a miracle in itself..
