The film I saw was Michael Collins, directed by Neil Jordan. I found this film very interesting about Irish history. The film interested me from start to finish. The actors and actresses in the film did an exceptional job portraying the roles they were playing. Liam Neeson was an excellent Michael Collins and even showed some resemblance. Aiden Quinn played the role of Harry Boland and Julia Roberts played the role of Kitty Kierman. An important leading role of Eamon de Valera was played by Alan Rickman. This film portrays Michael Collins as an Irish patriot fighting to gain independence from the British Empire. The film analyzes the several significant events that took place between the Easter Rising and the time of Michael Collins' death. The film begins in Dublin, Ireland in the year 1916, the setting was during the Easter Rising, a rebellion started by a group of Irish nationalists against the British government that was in Ireland. In the first minutes of the film, the leaders of the rebellion were seized by British troops and shot. Michael Collins was not in a leadership role at the time and therefore posed no real threat. He was however imprisoned along with Harry Boland for their role and after a few months was released in December. Eamon de Valera, who was one of the leaders and had a significant role in the film, was taken to prison and placed in a holding cell to await his execution and then Michael Collins and Harry Boland broke him out of prison. Historically this has not happened. Valera was sent to prison but was not executed because he was born in America and was released about a year later... midway through the paper... to educate on an important figure in Irish history. Michael Collins played a key role in the Anglo-Irish Treaty. I think this film dealt with a lot of historical issues and even some that didn't touch directly on history, but I found it interesting that Michael Collins and Harry Boland were very close and both were fascinated by Kitty Kiernan and that Michael Collins was actually engaged to her all era. moment of his death. This film provided a lot of information about what happened in 19th century Ireland. The movie seems more than 90% historically accurate with added bells and whistles to keep the audience watching, but the scenarios with some changes seem to be in line with the story. I enjoyed the film and learned a lot from watching it with my son. I think this movie gave him an edge on these events that happened in 19th century history.
