The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is the first of many stories from the Romantic era. It is a story very different from any other author of this era because of the dark and disturbing sense that is told in the story. Samuel Taylor Coleridge offers his readers a new look at the Romantics of the times. There are seven rhymes, which could be seven chapters to tell the story. First of all, we are in the present day; at a wedding the ancient sailor tells his story to all the people. So, let's move on to the story he tells them. It's about how he was cursed when he shot the albatross and annoyed Mother Nature. So Mother Nature made him put the dead bird around his neck, and Death and his maiden came to visit him. All the other sailors on the ship suddenly died in the presence of death while the sailor was stuck in a windless area. He begins to pray and feel remorse for killing the bird, so the bird falls from his neck and death partially brings his old sailors back to life so he can return home. This is the first time zombies have been imagined. Once he returns home, his lifelong penance begins...
