The Iraq War is over now. Looking back at a huge controversy, one side clearly seems more “correct” than the other. Yet there were initially two sides to the Iraq War controversy. There was the terror caused by the September 11 attacks, people the government wanted to punish or kill like Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, and a country that “needed” the United States' help both politically and financially. At the time of the terrorist attacks, people were afraid of what else the terrorists were planning or might do, so George Bush sent troops to search for weapons of mass destruction (WMD). In hindsight, the Iraq war was a bad idea. The situation was handled poorly, too much money was spent and there were too many casualties to say it was a good idea to go to war. To continue the war effort and gain support, lies about the search for real weapons were spread. Later in the war it was discovered that there had never been any weapons of mass destruction. So, regardless of the seemingly bad decision after a decade of struggling to empathize with Iraq, the U.S. government lied to prolong the war and continue to waste resources. The reasons for going to war with Iraq were right and reasonable. Iraqi terrorists attacked national monuments and important US buildings killing many innocent people. In turn, the Bush administration issued a statement to rid the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction and to impose a kind of “power plant” to keep terrorism out of America. The goal has always been to find the weapons of mass destruction in the possession of Iraqi terrorists and get out of them. Bush himself said we would stay at war as long as necessary and not a day longer. Yet one day it was announced that we had found the weapons of mass destruction we were looking for... in the middle of the paper... all these resources were wasted in a war based on lies.
