I chose research in the career of a clinical psychologist. I have been interested in the field of psychology since high school and have always wanted to work helping people. A doctorate, an internship, up to two years of professional practice, and passing the psychology professional practice exam are the education and training requirements to become a clinical psychologist. A license to practice clinical psychology is also required. As a clinical psychologist, my responsibilities and duties would include: studying and diagnosing mental, emotional, and behavioral problems; treat and help my clients; and consult with other qualified psychologists about how best to help patients. Being a clinical psychologist in private practice means I can set my own schedule. However, most clinical psychologists work during regular business hours and sometimes on weekends to work around client schedules. I believe I will set my workdays and hours as deemed appropriate to help my patients take full advantage of my abilities. Clinical psychologists earn quite a bit of money in their field of work. From a 2010 census, I could have a salary between $50 and 60,000 per year as a clinical psychologist. I think in Louisiana this is considered middle class and I think I could easily live on that kind of salary. I find the job prospects for clinical psychologists to be quite good. From 2010 to 2020, employment growth of 22% is expected in the clinical psychologist profession. The mental and regular health industry has been booming for a while and is still growing. I think this is good for me as I pursue clinical psychology while growing up. As a clinical psychologist, I wouldn't need to travel for my job. I believe this... middle of paper... because none of the popular jobs listed are what I want to do. Industrial/organizational psychologist is the closest result on the list to the professional field I want to dedicate myself to. Conclusion I think the MBTI rating was 50/50. Some parts were exactly how I am, while the other half was the complete opposite of my personality. Career research gave me more information about the future career I want, but I already knew most of the information provided. As a clinical psychologist, I look forward to helping people improve their lives and overcome difficult obstacles. I think the most negative part of a career in clinical psychology that I found in my research was the amount of education and training needed. However, I am looking forward to completing my studies and starting my career as a clinical psychologist. Works Cited www.bls.gov/ooh/
