The use of political satire is something that has become prevalent in modern cartoons. "Family Guy" features a Quahog, Rhode Island family called the Griffins that includes a dorky father named Peter, a seductive mother named Lois, two awkward teenagers named Chris and Megan, an evil child named Stewie and a talking dog named name Brian. "American Dad!" centers on the Smith family of Langley Falls, Virginia, which includes a CIA agent and father named Stan, a mother named Francine, a smoking daughter named Hayley, a genius son named Steve, a troublemaking alien named Roger, and a German CIA agent in a the body of a fish named Klaus. These two Seth MacFarlane shows have something in common and that is the stereotypical representation of political ideologies. “Family Guy” is about the stereotypical liberal family and “American Dad!” it's about the stereotypical conservative family. To begin with, a political ideology is a belief system upon which an individual or group bases their actions for a preferred order for society. Liberalism, represented by “Family Guy,” is a political philosophy based on the belief in change to achieve progress. Liberals believe that it is the government's duty to ensure equal opportunities and equality for all, emphasizing the need for government. On the other hand, conservatism, represented by “American Dad!” it is a political philosophy based on traditional practices of politics and society. Conservatives believe in the conservation or preservation of what is already established and dislike the idea of change. Conservatives value individual rights and liberties, the rule of law, free markets, minimal government involvement, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. Overall, these are… paper measures… on magazine capacity, bans on military semi-automatic weapons, and additional gun control laws. They believe it is the duty of law enforcement to protect people. This liberal point of view can be seen in the third episode of the second season, "Da Boom", where there is a scene where people gather to plan to collect all the guns and weapons in the city, and then burn them all . In contrast, conservatives believe they have the right to defend themselves. Conservatives believe there are too many gun laws, which doesn't help reduce crime rates. This conservative viewpoint can be seen in almost every single “American Dad!” episode due to Stan's work as a CIA agent. Although Stan sometimes undertakes assassination missions, he is known for being a trigger-happy agent. He believes in protecting his country at all costs, which means he always has a gun with him.
