Topic > Burning Hope: Survivors of the Jewish Holocaust

Those who survived are here to tell the tragic and devastating story of their lives. Survivors shared brutal yet realistic stories of each of their experiences before, during and after the Holocaust. History must never repeat itself in the way of racism, murder and fear of our leaders. The ardent hope of those involved still generates enormous sadness in the many who felt the horror of the Holocaust. There was a sense of peace and prosperity among those who had settled in the European area. Their lives were comparable to the life of the average American today. There were religious, speech, and physical freedoms still available to those who wanted them. Children were laughing, families were united and people seemed to be enjoying everyday life. Some may not know that the Holocaust was made up of many events, which made World War II what it would soon become in September 1939. Hitler was born in Austria on April 20, 1889. Adolf Hitler did not simply become the leader of Germany and the supervisor of all things immediately. He was known to be very short-tempered. During Hitler's early life, he fought in the Great War for Germany. He had been injured and felt as if Germany was humiliated. Although Hitler was born and raised in Austria, he loved and longed for his homeland in Germany. This inspired him to begin campaigning for supreme power in 1919. Before the Holocaust, but during World War II Hitler was passionate about rebuilding Germany. It didn't matter who he stepped on to do it. Adolf began to blame the Jews for almost everything. Germany began referring to those of the Jewish religion as “Vermons” (David 4-5). Subsequently, the Jews would also be limited and removed from the occupations. This was the beginning of the mai-en...... middle of paper ......d this felt a feeling of burning hope. The hope was not realized until the year 1945. The many who had died could never see their families again. The few left alive tried to return to normal life. This was a difficult process. Even today, survivors continue the lifestyle they led during the Holocaust. They rarely waste things, are kind to everyone and have a hard heart due to the experiences they have had during this period. Before, during and after the Holocaust there were three totally different time periods. This experience is something that those who have not participated in simply cannot understand. I for one cannot imagine the pain and grief these families have gone through. The Holocaust changed the world. It will forever be a burden to bear. The ardor of hope still reigns in those who survived.
