Anna Katherine HarperMrs. SmithEnglish 1014 April 2014Document opposing homosexuality and gay marriage“Our culture has accepted two enormous lies. The first is that if you don't agree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that loving someone means agreeing with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise your beliefs to be compassionate." –Rick WarrenThe problem in today's society is that you either have to love homosexuals and agree with them or you have to hate them and disagree with the way they live their lives. I find this to be untrue. My opinion is that you can love them but that doesn't mean you have to accept their lifestyle. Homosexuality has been in our world forever. There have been stories since ancient times that mentioned people having homosexual activities. In fact, the Spartans engaged in homosexual activity to ensure they trusted the man next to them when they were in the phalanx, a battle formation used by the Spartans where soldiers used their shields to cover half body and half body. the person next to them. The term homosexuality dates back to the 19th century to describe a sexual and emotional interest in one's gender. The term was used primarily to indicate whether a person was immoral or pathological (World Book Encyclopedia 307). When it comes to homosexuality, many Christians base their opinions on what the Bible says. Homosexuality is described as an “abomination” in the Bible (Sullivan). In Leviticus 18:22 it says, “You shall not have intercourse with a man as with a woman, it is an abomination” (Bible 79). Then also a few chapters later in Leviticus 20:13 it says, “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have a commitment…half of the sheet…off of the TV show. He was just expressing his opinion, so I don't think he deserved to be criticized like he was by A&E and the news. Same-sex marriage is inevitable. There is no way we can ignore it now because it has become a major controversy. I mean, even if we choose to try to ignore homosexuality, we won't be able to do so. It is too widespread in our country and around the world. Even if I am against homosexuality and same-sex marriage, I will still love that person even if I don't support their lifestyle. I don't expect people to agree with what I say, but I believe this is the wrong path and that something can be done to change everything. I think homosexuality is a mental problem and that if the person got the right help they could be "cured" of it. But my belief is that this is a big mess far from being solved.
