being a composer in her mind. After his performing career ended, Kasilag taught at the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music. He taught there from 1946 to 1947. While teaching, Kasilag eventually worked towards his degree in Music. In 1949 he finally obtained a degree in Music. Kasilag started having ideas to further his music career. One of them was attending a music school in America, 8,207 miles away from his home. Kasilag had to choose between two music schools in America. One was the Chicago Music College, the other was the Eastman School of Music which is located in Rochester, New York. Kasilag chose the Eastman School of Music where he studied with Allen I. McHose and Wayne Barlow. After attending Eastman she would attend the Chicago Music College, but returned to the Philippines in 1953. While in the Philippines Kasilag was appointed Dean of the Philippine Women's University College of Music and Fine Arts.
