Topic > The Internet Becomes More and More Dangerous - 1060

With the enormous growth of the Internet, it is becoming more and more dangerous for its users. With new technological advancements, fraud in cyberspace has increased. These new advances have made the Internet vulnerable to various types of e-commerce fraud. New techniques have been developed to detect and prevent cyber fraud, in order to discover and prevent criminals before the facts happen, rather than after the damage has been done. Individuals and businesses should recognize each new cyber attack and make themselves aware of the consequences each attack can create. This paper will discuss the new cyber attacks on the rise and how individuals and businesses are being affected. The Internet is Becoming More Dangerous Fraud in cyberspace has increased dramatically with new technological advances in cybersecurity. With these new advancements the Internet has become vulnerable to various types of e-commerce fraud. New ways to detect and prevent cyber fraud have been developed, in order to discover and prevent criminals before the facts happen, rather than after the damage has been done. In the Trends E-Magazine article Internet becomes more dangerous we talk about fraud in cyberspace and how it is becoming more and more evident with the increase in business efficiency and productivity. It is stated that “the more dependent we become on cyberspace, the more vulnerable we become to all these threats” (25). Next, some examples of cyberspace threats were discussed. To list a few: “A Microsoft Windows computer worm called Stuxnet targets industrial software” (24). “Malware has been detected in several cloud computing services and is now appearing on mobile devices”(24) and “phishing attacks increased 12% in the first quarter of 2011, according to an eCrimes Trends Report”(24) . The increases in these attacks... halfway through the document... have been taken into account. First, cloud computing will prove to be the main target of cybercriminals in the next five years because security measures tend to slow down as new technologies are developed and need useful and sensitive information that will be available in the cloud. Given this window of opportunity, cybercriminals will try to get as much as they can. Secondly, attacks on mobile devices will increase significantly due to the increase in applications downloaded on these devices. Finally, Voice-over IP (VoIP) will come under new sophisticated attacks because they contain over “100 common vulnerabilities and exposures” (27). Their counter-security measures do not have adequate protection; thus leaving VoIP defenseless to hackers. Works Cited The Internet becomes more dangerous. (2011, August).
