There are different forms of government and among these there are democratic and dictatorships. The difference between these two forms of government is that while in democratic governance the leader is chosen by the governed, government of the people, by the people and for the people according to Abraham Lincoln. In a dictatorship, however, the people have no choice about their leaders or how they are governed. Leadership in a dictatorial form of government is normally acquired by force and sometimes through inheritance. The dictator's decision is final and anyone with a different opinion is seen as an enemy of the state. Over the years, numerous studies have been conducted on archeology under a democratic government and archeology under a dictatorship because it is generally believed that the type of government affects archaeology. Different models of studies demonstrate the different positions on archaeology, mainly that the state is the guardian of archeology and therefore protects the archaeological heritage. This happens in various ways including through a state archaeological site and through dedicated bodies. The other view on archeology is that archeology is a service and that private entities and companies protect archaeological heritage, these commercial archaeological companies are constantly serving their clients (Schlanger and Aitchison, 2010). There are different types of dictatorships. These are totalitarianism, whereby the state regulates all aspects of public and private behavior, and authoritarianism, which is primarily concerned with the source of government power. The main differences between these two types of dictatorship are that in a totalitarian dictatorship, a single political party leads the state. An influential... center of the chart... is strongly influenced in several ways. This significantly compromised the archaeological work carried out and the final result. Archaeology, in fact, is no longer determined by the research done and the findings but by what a minority of people want it to be. In dictatorships, it has been used to change people's mindsets and to influence the way people think, then used to justify even the worst atrocities. In capitalist societies, however, it is more of a business and therefore the owners of these companies are mostly interested in the profits they can get from them and not in the quality of their discoveries and research. Although there are rules and regulations on the ethics of archaeology, especially in democratic states, these have not been sufficiently effective in discouraging these wrong practices and therefore cultural heritage has long been tampered with.
