Brazil has seen one of the highest deforestation rates in recent years. It's beautiful that Amazon has a dark past of destruction. That destruction is deforestation. Yes, that wonderful and enormous forest was even more beautiful until it was cut down, burned and destroyed by the Brazilian people. Not only the Brazilian people are responsible for this, because we on the other side of the planet are also responsible for what is happening to one of the last Amazons on the planet. How could we who are nowhere near the Brazilian Amazon? perhaps be responsible for what is happening there? Well, that hamburger and those napkins you're using right now at your favorite fast food restaurant could be the reason for deforestation in Brazil. Like the Greenpeace website that talks about how Burger King was in partnership with Sinar Mas, which was destroying forests to provide cheaper products to fast food companies. They have declared that they will no longer deal with them if they do not stop causing deforestation. Other companies still have a long way to go. KFC also said they will look more closely at where they get their supplies and whether this is linked to deforestation, but did not say they will stop trading with companies such as Asia pulp and paper (Greenpeace). Threatening companies by taking away their operations will allow them to consider stopping causing deforestation. This is a start, but there is still a long way to go for the Brazilian Amazon. Not only fast food but also companies such as JBS, Marfrig and Minerva which make up around 60% of the livestock in the Amazon. They have made a big leap forward in saying that they will no longer buy from farms that h......half the paper......has increased. There is still a long way to go for deforestation but there there are many organizations that are fighting to stop deforestation in Brazil. Some are Greenpeace, EDF and much more. There's still a lot we can do ourselves, like the simple task of planting a tree in your yard. The past cannot be changed but the future can. It appears that Brazil is on the right track in trying to prevent future deforestation.Works CitedGreenpeace.Greenpeace, 2013.Web.30 Jan 2014Kamran."Effects of deforestation in Brazil."Envirocivil.Envirocivil.2014.Web.28 Jan 2014Schwartzman,Steve .EDF.Environmental Defense Fund, 2014.Web.5 February 2014The effects of deforestation. “Deforestation: Understanding Its Benefits.” Wordpress.Copyscape.12Nov 2012.Web.14 Feb 2014Williams, Michael."The history of deforestation."Storiaoggi.Storia Oggi LTD.June2001.Web.5 Feb 2014.”
