Earth MadnessCan a pill make a person see false images? The story “The Yellow Pill” is based solely on what others say is real. Pills can be very dangerous and have different effects on different people. To keep the thought of reality in mind, those taking the pill must remember who they are real, their past experiences, and what makes them who they are. The story of “The Yellow Pill” is set on Earth. “'I remember,' said Cedric. 'A beautiful rationalization in every man's reality to make the rejection become mine before you have time to reject me yourself.'” “'But it's not!' Elena said. 'Oh, darling, I'm here! This is real!'” (7). In this situation, Cedric is talking to Helena; he asks her to go to dinner with him, but she says no. In dreams, what someone wants to happen happens; dreams are wishful thinking. In Cedric's perfect world, Helena would have said yes to dinner; however, she says no. Helena is a real person living on Earth with her own thoughts and feelings. Cedric interacts with many people and is also able to connect with them. Another person Cedric talks to is Dave from the DA's office. The phone conversation ended like this: "'I thought it would be less of an imposition on you,' said the DA. 'I'm in a hurry.' 'Oh,' said Cedric. 'Well, all right, Dave. He's out in the waiting room. I'll do my best to bring it back to reality for you'” (5) There was a two-way conversation between Dave and Cedric; with his patients; while Jerry he only interacts with one person. Cedric has already taken the yellow pill and when Cedric takes it for the second time, he says: “'I took one three years ago when they first took... half the paper.. ...is his name throughout the story while Cedric has two names. Jerry gave the name Gar to Cedric, which is the only reason he is called a different name. Earth is the setting for this story Jerry and Cedric are two characters with lifestyles very different; one is a mass murderer while the other is a psychiatrist. Although one might believe that the story is set in space, there are many other facts that lead to the choice of Earth. These reasons are: real interactions between characters, past experiences with the pill, psychologists have a different level of thinking than ordinary people, and Jerry saw things as they really are.
