Topic > People can still show kindness despite all the evil...

The world we share is a beautiful place. Not just the places we can go or the things we can see, but the people around us. There is still a lot of good in this world, even if it's hard to see. Every day we are subjected to the evil things of the world. On television and in the news we see wars, terrorism, crimes and hatred. Good people who suffer for no apparent reason. We are exposed to a constant barrage of negativity, which can skew our opinions from the truth. The reality is that humanity still has a moral heart and there is still hope for the future. That people can still show kindness to complete strangers without reward. This is how I see the world now, but it wasn't always this way. For a long time I viewed society, as a whole, negatively. I perceived people in an undesirable light, due to what I saw every day at work. It was during that time that I worked for the Department of Homeland Security as a security officer. My job was to stop people from smuggling illegal drugs, stolen goods and human trafficking into and out of the country. I interacted every day with people who cared nothing more than self-preservation. I saw what they would do to others just for personal gain and it caused a change in me. It just made me see the dark side of people. I came to believe that everyone was selfish and had no sense of community, just a sense of selfishness. I began to believe that the world no longer contained anything good. In one of my first experiences as a security officer, I encountered a group of five passengers attempting to board an overseas flight. The group consisted of two Hispanic men, both wearing nice clothes and jewelry, with visible tattoos on their necks and arms. While the others in their group were three... middle of the paper... chasing his car, a few points from where I had parked. I decided to go and help the pregnant woman, when I noticed three young men walking near the woman. The three young men wore backward hats, baggy trousers and behaved in a rowdy manner, being noisy. They seemed like the kind of kids who would go around and cause trouble, without caring about others. Then, to my complete surprise, they stopped and helped the troubled woman load her belongings into her car. It was at this moment that I felt a 'light' turn on inside me. I realized that all my negative opinions and thoughts towards society and people were severely distorted. This small and simple act had a profound effect on my opinions. It was the turning point that changed my views for the better. It opened my eyes to the reality that good people still exist. It gave me a much needed new perspective on the world.
