Topic > Analysis of an Endless Runner - 3246

IntroductionDuring the 24 weeks of our Team Project module, we as a team voted to create “A. Cornelius Nutz in space”. This will be an Endless Runner with its USP (Unique Selling Point) that through the game you will go from 3 lane running to 9 lane running seamlessly. Our game will follow the key features that Endless Runners stick to, which is that you can't stop running (unless you hit a wall and lose) and the score is determined by the distance traveled (Bomb, 2013). The plot of the game has the main character as a squirrel in space trying to collect all the lost nuts. It follows a cartoonish theme and will be created using Unity Engine and the game will also be released on iOS and Android. There were many issues this year that included, but were not limited to, communication, team capacity, redesign, and team structure. This does not erase the many successes achieved within our team; this paper will examine these problems and the possible ways in which we could have overcome them. I will analyze the group's strengths and weaknesses, but also compare our development process to that of a commercial game studio. Team structure At the start of the year we were placed into teams with students all with different skills, but we were also given different team roles as we all undertook the Belbins Team Role Self-Perception Inventory (BTRSPI). The following image shows the different roles that Belbin talks about in his book "Management team" (RMM Belbin, 2010), these roles are completely different and they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Figure 1 - Summary of the team's role (RM Belbin, 2010) Each member of the team had previously had several contacts with the other members. For example,...... middle of the paper...... of the problems that have arisen I would rather stay away from some. If I were to repeat this module I would have preferred to have spent a longer first 2 busy weeks helping the team get through the 'Forming' and 'Storming' phases as I felt as a group we had been stuck in these phases for too long. I also wish the team leader had been more strict with some members regarding deadlines as this was one of the main issues that occurred that caused us to fall short of our contingency plan. I felt I had worked very hard throughout this year, although I started to slow down towards the end of the year due to other module deadlines. I have been extremely grateful to work with the people that I have and feel that this year has been crucial for me in learning some skills that I needed to learn, but also in allowing me to work with a group of excellent, hard working people hard.
