Milk has seen incredible development over the last thousands of years. From the raw milk of goats or cows at the dawn of man, to the organic and fatty contents that are produced all over the world today (Vicini). But is the milk that people drink today really the same milk as when consumption began? Recognized by the American Cancer Society, milk is now known to increase the risk of cancer and other medical problems. All of this refers to the growth hormones, vitamins and other drugs now given to dairy cows. For this reason the United States should change the regulations for anything put into a cow that produces milk for the American population. Milk is a common drink at any time of life. the day, and undeniably one of the most popular. Milk is not only found in liquid form, but is also present in many different foods. When asked about milk, most people will answer that it is good for bones, provides calcium and comes from a cow. Although milk provides the body with calcium which allows for less absorption by the bones, pasteurization eliminates many other vitamins that could help the body (Historical). This includes thiamine, vitamin B12, and vitamin C. And in reality, although all milk is based on the original appearance of cow's milk, not all milk comes from cows. Today there are five classifications of milk: whole, 1% or 2%, fat-free, lactose-free and organic. The biggest advancement for milk has been in the lactose-free area where soybeans, coconut, rice and other nuts are used to create the white stuff (Mattie). Today it seems that if it's white and fat then it's good enough, no matter how it's made or where it comes from. According to Mike Ewall, affiliated with the United States Justice Network, today's cows are now being given the splicer... middle of paper... to change these policies. American buyers have taken some actions to denounce farmers and mass producers of polluted milk (Farmers). This unnecessary drug is used throughout the United States, but is already banned in Europe and Canada (Farmers). So what's next for the health department? Someone to die for? Unfortunately it could come to this to seriously overlook what is happening. The United States must change the regulations surrounding these drugs and take action. However, adequate training is also needed among farmers so that they understand the benefits and consequences associated with hormone injection. If it is found to be harmful, then they should do everything they can not to use it and help move towards banning the substance. Since the hormone would not only affect livestock, but would also have a negative effect on humans.
