However, popular texts such as Jane Eyre, Frankenstein and The Castle of Otranto etc. They are taught religiously in schools, both GCSE and Alevel, which for some students aspire to the complex and fascinating Gothic genre, or for others the Gothic genre is always a fascination for avid fans. However, these popular books attract more people than others because one of the popular books was made into a popular movie and this may engage them more than the books. Beyond that, it is arguable that Gothic literature is still popular in society because many people are enthusiastic about the horror subgenre (which the Gothic genre created).
