Kate Chopin is well known for her extremely unique writing. Not only did her works strike at feminism, but the way she approached the topics was not easily tolerated at the time, especially for her gender. Many of his stories are related to marriage and the unhappiness that comes with it. In Baby by Desiree Chopin says, "And the very spirit of Satan seemed suddenly to take possession of him..." The comparison between the woman's husband and Satan's husband shows the intensity of the disgust between the two in the relationship. Strong statements like these are often seen in “The Storm” and “The Story of an Hour.” In Chopin's life she was married and her stories lead me to believe that she saw her marriage as a trap and suffered from a lack of privacy and control. Despite how provocative Chopin's works were, she was long ignored by readers and critics until her stories came to the surface in the 1960s and became more popular. The women in her stories are constantly searching for freedom, lust and attention. The time frame of Chopin's "The Tempest" was published in 1898. The theme of this story is strong with the act of faithfulness. In this story the female character Calixta is married with a child. When husband and son go to the city, suddenly a frightening storm breaks out. Fearing for the safety of his loved ones, a past lover asks Calixta for refuge. Knowing that the association is wrong, she relents and allows her past love to enter her home. While her family is still in the storm, Calixta ignores it and acts on her lustful intentions with her old life. The amount of contempt that is placed into this story is almost revolting. Upon the arrival of her husband and children, Calixta is full of relief and happiness, completely ignoring what had happened in her house... middle of paper... Opin's idea in each story was very contradictory. In the beginning women were almost fascinated and dissolved by the happiness in their marriages, but without a man in their life they become almost non-existent. In every woman's life they seek attention, lust and freedom. Once each woman is given all or one of these things, she can enjoy them for a moment and then her victory is taken away in a flash.
