Since its discovery the New World has attracted many lands in search of untold riches and adventure. As the New World was exploited, many countries began to decide to maintain control over where their resources were located. For most Europeans, they did not initially have a permanent settlement in mind, but only a claim to the land. As time passed it seemed inevitable that the settlements would become permanent. Privately financed in the early stages, some of which were later taken over by the crown, they flourished. At first the North American colonies were just fragments of their parent societies, but due to many factors the colonies were transformed into distinct cultures. One thing that seems to have started a different trend in the New World was the way the colonists started families. In Europe there was no real rush to get married, fathers took care of their daughters and men took the time to court a woman. Some felt it wasn't even necessary to get married, few would remain bachelors and spinsters all their lives and others felt they couldn't afford marriage and what came with it, children. In the colonies the opposite happened, looking in particular at New France almost everyone got married. Girls married a little younger than in Europe, due to the shortage of white women. It was the best way to gain security, once married there were two people who worked the land and the children who eventually helped, took over or even moved to occupy more land building a larger family plot. This sense of familial security seems to have made the New World distinct. In Europe the church, regardless of people's religion, still had a great effect on society. The church and its teachings......middle of paper......should have gotten on with their own day-to-day management, so this made them more independent. Furthermore, when another country took control, it only increased cultural diversity by contributing to the district culture that the colonies already possess. Finally, it appears that since settlers were arriving in a new land with inhabitants already present, more cultural mixing would occur. Native Americans had been surviving off the land long before Europeans arrived. So it would be natural that when the Europeans arrived they would turn to the natives for help to survive, well when they were done taking over their land and getting rid of a couple of tribes. Alliances were formed with some tribes. This affected the culture a lot because they were able to get information on how to survive, because of this the colonists would become strong year after year.
