Jason imagines himself in a world where he will not be distracted, which will give him the opportunity to focus and achieve his goals. He has started thinking about it, planning what he will do and how to make the most of his second chance. “He won't be like his father, he thinks, he won't waste his opportunities. He will grab what comes and run with it” (Allison 34). It will be about him and the basement, who he will become, who he should have become. “In the basement they won't give him much to eat, so he will become completely skinny. He could learn to eat imaginary meals and taste every morsel: donuts and hot barbecue wings, and stay all lean and pure. He will come out of that Brad-Pitt basement handsome and ready for anything” (Allison 34-35). In his mind, these are all the opportunities he will have to become who he wants to be. In Silent Snow, Secret Snow, Paul's imagination takes him on his new, enjoyable journey. “Ah, how heavenly are even the first beginnings – hearing or feeling – for could he really feel it? – the silent snow, the secret snow” (Aiken 20). He is enjoying every moment of his new experience which brings him peace. As the snow mounted, he thought, the world would become peaceful and quieter, which is new to him
