My research interests revolve around issues of (re-)presentation in media, film and the arts, emerging from, but not limited to, and problematised by , aspects relating to one or more of the following areas: race relations, ethnicity, diaspora, displacement and exile. Wide-ranging, my research responds to diverse and complementary fields of study, such as black culture and politics in America (Todd Boyd, Michael Eric Dyson, among others) and cultural studies in England (Paul Gilroy, Stuart Hall, among others). . And I also address historical silences from countries (such as Brazil), which, in recent decades, have been replaced by strong voices in transnational theoretical frameworks. Previous research: My doctoral project translates well the transnational extension of my research as ho sought to make evident the interconnection between the cinemas of Africa, Europe and the Americas (principally Brazil and the United States) through an articulation of shared experiences of diaspora and places of memory. My approach focused first and foremost on the diasporic connections between African Lusophone cinema and (African-)Brazilian cinema. However, by intentionally working on a South-South axis on the Black Atlantic, I have focused on suggesting a viable alternative to the long-known and established North Atlantic perspective in this field of study. As the investigation evolved, I was able to broaden the scope of my research project to include Black British and African American cinemas, thereby understanding further aspects of the legacy of Third World cinemas in the Atlantic region.
