The article “Measurement of romantic love” written by Zick Rubin, expresses the initial research aimed at presenting and validating the socio-psychological construct of romantic love. The author assumes that love should be measured independently of sympathy. In this research, romantic love was also conceptualized into three elements: a need for affiliation and dependence, an orientation of exclusivity and absorption, and finally a predisposition to help. There were a total of three main phases to the research. It involves a paper-and-pencil love scale, a questionnaire study on dating student couples, and a laboratory experiment. To distinguish the difference between loving and liking, you need to undergo a questionnaire. First of all, the love scale relating to the association's response to the questionnaire must be set. Some items of the questionnaire were to be provided based on the respondents' attitude towards the target person. The questionnaire represented the personal views of two groups of students and teachers on the ideas of love and the like. It contained a theoretical thought and indicated the three elements of love mentioned in paragraph one. The questionnaire items included two categories, Like and Love, and the questionnaires were distributed to 158 dating couples at the University of Michigan. The results found that love and pleasure were more strongly correlated among males than females and provided some evidence to support the hypothesis that it was better for women to differentiate the two emotions than men. The results also showed that women like their male friends more than other parties like them. Furthermore, women were inclined to say love to same-sex friends more than men and those could be some kind of gender differences... middle of paper... more experienced or given some training in an attempt to avoid misconceptions. distraction during the experiment. Validity was not sufficient for the entire research. For the questionnaire part, it is valid at that time. The questionnaire items represented the personal views of two groups of students and teachers on the ideas of love and the like. These questions were chosen after serious consideration and related to the concept of love and sympathy. However, some questions are not suitable nowadays and this will be discussed below. It was not valid for the experiment. The author used eye contact to assess the couples' visual behavior but it was not a good measurement. Some mature couples would develop a deeper relationship and have closer contact such as a hug. Eye contact may not be a way or necessity to communicate, but that doesn't mean they weren't close.
