Rolihlahla Mandela, now called "Nelson Mandela", played a major role in South African society and a minor role in American society. He is one of the most recognized individuals in this world today. Mandela became a symbol of resistance and was recognized by all the South African people since his fight for equality and his efforts to end apartheid in South Africa. Mandela is a man whose dedication to the freedom of his people inspires human rights defenders around the world. After his efforts and succession to end apartheid and gain freedom in South Africa, he composed one of his most famous quotes. This quote specifically states, “I fought against white domination and I fought against black domination. I cherish the ideal of a free, democratic society in which all people live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal that I hope to live for and achieve. But if necessary, it is an ideal for which I am ready to die." The only meaning of this quote is that Mandela fought not only for the freedom of black people, but he also fought for a society where everyone is free and equal. He wanted to prevent the domination of a specific race. Mandela officially bore witness to South Africa's racism for almost his entire life and helped end apartheid in South Africa. The main reason why Mandela became a symbol of resistance is that he did not give up the struggle and efforts to end apartheid even after being imprisoned. After being released from prison just three months later, Mandela was chosen to lead the African National Congress and had an official meeting with the government and the two sides that had been in opposition for many decades arrived at peace. In December... in the middle years... Mandela did not lose heart and fought again against the apartheid government. After winning the fight to end apartheid, the ANC political party chose Mandela as its presidential candidate. And because of this, the first multi-ethnic presidential elections were held and Mandela won more than 60% of the votes and became the first black president of South Africa. In his years in office, Mandela passed numerous laws to prevent any kind of domination and discrimination in South Africa. Additionally, in honor of Mandela's commitment to peacefully ending apartheid, Mandela was given names of streets, museums, flowers, statues, nuclear particles and even foundations. Mandela was truly a man who should be noticed by everyone in the world today for his actions and for helping many black South Africans get their justice and do so with peaceful actions.
