Treasure Island, written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is about a boy named Jim Hawkins who goes in search of Flint's buried treasure. Jim Hawkins goes on this journey with Doctor Livesey and Squire Trelawney, and they hire laborers to help them. Unfortunately, John Silver, a one-legged pirate searching for this treasure, also joins the crew. The other crew members, whom they hired, planned a mutiny. Once they reach the island, a battle takes place between the pirates and Jim's group. There are many conflicts, betrayals and interesting situations throughout the novel. This story takes place during the eighteenth century near Bristol, England, and Treasure Island, an island off the coast of "Spanish America". The exact date of the story is unknown as the author did not reveal it, but we know it dates back to the 1700s because Jim Hawkins stated at the beginning "...in the year of grace 17--..." Some things that are interesting and might help to find a more correct date for the setting of the novel is that it may have been set based on references to real men. Such as Admiral Edward Hawke (1705-1781) and Admiral John Benbow (1653-1702). Benbow was the name of Jim's family's inn. The story suggested that England was at war with France, which occurred in 1740-1763, which is when the story took place. When Robert Louis Stevenson was about to publish Treasure Island, his father noticed that on the map the date the treasure was buried was 1750. This was the same date the infamous treasure was buried on Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands . During the time the book was published (1883), the Krakatoa volcano erupts. This volcano killed 36,000 people! The main narrator of Treasure Island is Jim Ha... center of the card... kill Jim, even if he was injured. His hands were injured on his leg and he could barely walk. However, when Jim went downstairs to get Hands some wine, he saw Hands take a knife and hid it in his jacket. Hands wanted to kill Jim, even though he was injured. He even went up the ditch with the knife in his mouth, even though he was in a lot of pain. In this world, there are many bad people who would do almost anything to get rid of anything that stands in their way. Jim Hawkins in the main narrator of the novel Treasure Island who strives to live. He begins this journey with Doctor Livesey and Squire Trelawney and they hire a crew to help them. The battle between the pirates and Jim's group that took place once they reached the island showed how people can turn against you in an instant. Treasure Island showed a lot of interesting conflicts and problems that Jim Hawkins had to solve.
