I tried to have an open posture and maintain eye contact as these approaches show the client that you are listening and engaged in the conversation. Watching the video again, I feel like my body posture could have been better. Since we were sitting on a couch, it was difficult to have that direct contact position. Additionally, I found that keeping notes hindered my engagement as I continued to look at them. Additionally, I used empathetic statements in the interview, such as “clarify…” and “it must be difficult for you.” This not only allowed the client to add additional information if she wanted, but also gave her comfort.
