“If you work only for money you will never make it, but if you love what you do and always put the customer first, success will be yours.” This is a famous quote from former CEO of McDonald's restaurant and company, Ray Kroc. He talks about how people should stop doing business just for money, but instead for love and customer satisfaction. The McDonald's company and restaurant have been a great success not only for the franchise owners, but also for they have satisfied their customers with cheap and delicious food. Since they opened their Bar-B-Q in 1940 they have sold over 300 billion hamburgers. But they don't just sell in the United States. The company operates in 121 countries around the world. However, this business didn't start to thrive in the beginning, it needed help along the way. McDonald's franchising began when Dick and Mac McDonald opened their Bar-B-Q. At that time it was a normal restaurant, a drive-in in San Bernardino, California. Bar-B-Q opened in 1940. Business was small at that time, as you would expect from a small restaurant. However, the McDonald's restaurant was founded in 1948, with the signed agreement being a hamburger for fifteen cents. The menu at the time featured nine items: a hamburger, a cheeseburger, root beer, orange soda, Coke, milk, milkshake in three flavors (chocolate, vanilla and strawberry), cake and fries. In 1954, Ray Kroc, a multi-mixer salesman (a person who sold complex milkshakes at the time), went to a California city called San Bernardino to sell his multi-mixers for the company's beverages. He became interested in the process of selling hamburgers. He learned that Richard… midway through the paper… the owners were still proud to have made it this far. In 1973 they released another great product with the quarter pounder. The burger is still on the menu today. The following year the first Ronald McDonald's House opened. The Houses had tubes and slides for people to go down and enjoy. This was mainly attracted to young children, especially because they wanted to have fun while eating. McDonald's jobs in the 1970s were very low paying jobs. The minimum wage during this period was approximately $3 an hour. Managers usually had the highest-paying jobs for a restaurant, but they still weren't paid as much compared to other jobs. Managers would earn around $20,000 per year, which you may still have to cover your basic needs. The workers had to work very hard until the end of the shift. Many described the restaurant as a “fast-paced workplace”..”
