The quote from the book constantly reminds me of current events in North Korea. The Regime, as outsiders call it, has been in power for 50 years and has failed to keep famine, disease and poverty at bay. The Regime uses ideological torture to repress any revolts together with imprisonment. The leader of the regime, Kim-Jong-Un, is a very young and aggressive leader and one of the most powerful leaders on earth, but he fails to feed most of his people. North Korean citizens have little to no food and are deprived of any outside information. No one in the regime challenges Kim-Jong-Un because he will undoubtedly execute them and their families. In this sense, therefore, people in the regime are afraid, like Chinese party officials, of losing their positions. And officials will make false propaganda to please Kim-Jong-Un.
