In the movie “Life and Debt,” the prime minister said that the only way for his newly independent country to survive is to borrow money from other countries. And because these newly independent countries need to use their scarce money to keep most people alive, they have to invest less money in education, infrastructure, medical and health care. While globalization brings money and jobs to these countries, it also leads to more problems. As Robinson states in “Theories of Globalization,” globalization theory is related to world-system theory. And in world-system theory there are three great regions. The first is the nucleus; the second is semi-periphery and the third is periphery (Robinson 128-129). Since labor in the periphery is the cheapest, this means that other countries will use labor from peripheral countries, which will also lead to new slavery and child labor, and environmental consequences.
