The art of baking This semester I wanted to gain knowledge about who I am as a person and what I wanted to do when I grew up. I started this semester thinking about what I love to do the most, or in this case what I thought I would like to do and learn the most. I was thinking about interning at Lockheed Martin, but I wasn't 18 at the start of the semester, so I couldn't do it. I had also thought about doing something with ceramics, but I didn't have a place to do it; or any idea of what I wanted to do with that. So I decided to try my hand at baking and pastry making. I thought to myself that, well, I've always loved baking and maybe I could apply my ceramic skills to the cake-making process. I had tried emailing many different companies to see if I could intern with them, with no luck. instead I ended up with an angry letter from a bakery, and a bunch of “we already have an intern, sorry”. But I wasn't going to let that deter me from what I had finally decided to do. so I talked to Mr. Handy and we discussed online classes. I ended up taking online courses on Mondays, taking notes and learning a lot. I decided on Tuesday that I would gather the materials and begin the process of cooking what I had learned the day before on Monday. On Wednesday I decided I wanted to volunteer. I wasn't so sure where I wanted to do my service hours, but I knew I wanted to try something new and not as far away as the same bar. My friend Megan Boyles said she was serving at Buffalo Ridge Elementary and gave me the information to start there too. I got ready and started working with kindergarten children, third graders and SSN children (special...... half paper...... at school they learn and understand their material better. at pick-up of care, I gave my compassion by spending time with quadriplegics and making them smile every time I showed up to help. This SErvice learning showed me that compassion and kindness are needed in the world.. Without it, we are just a group of people interacting without mutual love. I learned to remember that kindness that is necessary in every act I do. My research for this project was the online lessons I took part in. They contributed to my research by donating to me something to try making every week and duplicate. My research has progressed as I've gotten better at making cakes. My first lesson was on how to shape a ckae and bake it, and my latest video will be how to make a wedding cake or how to make it. . polish a perfect cake to sell, this cake will then be used for my final project.
