September 11, 2011 began like any normal day in New York City. People rushing to work, children going to school and people going for a morning walk or run. But no one knew that that day would turn into a horror movie. A terrorist organization called al-Qaeda hijacked planes and flew them into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center along with the Pentagon in Washington DC. The September 11, 2001 Attacks Changed America Forever (9/11 Attacks - 102 Minutes That Changed America) The September 11 attacks were the worst acts of terrorism ever committed against the United States. Nineteen terrorists took control of commercial airliners and crashed them into two World Trade Center towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington DC (The World Book Student Discovery Encyclopedia, Volume 10, page 76). At approximately 8:46 am, the hijackers American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The plane struck between the ninety-third and ninety-ninth floors of the tower, killing everyone on board and hundreds inside the building. White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card informs President George W. Bush that a plane has hit the World Trade Center. He was visiting a school in Sarasota, Florida (9/11 MEMORIAL - 9/11 Timeline pages 10-11,13). At approximately 8:59 am, the hijacked Flight 175 approaches the World Trade Center towers. Once crew members and passengers noticed the towers, they were able to contact loved ones and authorities on site. To protect the workers of the South Tower, approximately 10,000 to 14,000 people began to evacuate. Four minutes into Flight 175's approach, it crashes into floors seventy-seven to eighty-five of the tower, killing everyone in the attack. Furthermore, the casualties caused by the attacks were staggering. In both cases, the attacks backfired on the terrorists. In the end, it is the goodness of America's democratic way of life, and its military might, that prevails over evil (Pearl Harbor 1941, Twin Towers 2001; Machiavellians of the US Bourgeoisie, page 1, paragraphs 3-5). After the collapse of the towers there were rubles and damaged objects everywhere. On the first day alone, firefighters and rescue teams worked for twenty hours straight, with only short breaks to rest (Williams, page 26). us/wtc_911_facts.htmlhttp://www.history.com/interactives/witness-to-911http://www.history.com/topics/9-11-attackshttp://www.9-11commission.gov/report/ 911Report_Exec.htmhttp://en.internationalism.org/ir/108_machiaval.htm
