In the Locke-inspired film V for Vendetta the stipulation is that people should not be afraid of the government, but the government should be afraid of the people. The people's obligation to rebel gives them a purpose as well as a larger picture of balance and a brighter future for themselves and therefore for the rest of the community in the pursuit of noble ideals. Even if a political structure were to fail, it is better to have rebelled in the exercise of one's rights than to have never truly experienced the adventure that is progression and deliberation. Remaining silent in times of oppression is one of the greatest sins that Abraham Lincoln pointed out, and the freedom of one's soul's right to breathe should also be manifested verbally. Following Rousseau's thought experiment of eliminating all cultural and human norms and then evaluating life should be part of the design of the political structure worth investing in. Being able to look critically, analytically and insightfully is the calling for those who are capable and have not slipped into degeneracy, and that majority of humanity can accomplish this task. “Man is born free and is everywhere in chains,” said Rousseau regarding the constraints imposed by society. Remove all constraints and truly see what is happening in human nature; if society and relationships make individuals inauthentic then the bonds of society must be bent and shaped organically while respecting the right to express one's independence.
