Topic > Lessons I Learned from the Jrotc Program

There are many moments in life when we are forced to step outside of our comfort zone. For me, one of those moments came when my parents forced me to enroll in JROTC at Leavenworth High School. The goal of the program is to help cadets become better citizens in the community. JROTC has not only helped me grow as a person, but it has also made me want to have a greater impact on the people I meet throughout my life. The program helped me understand what it means to help the community without expecting anything in return. Overall, JROTC has helped me want to make an impact in the communities where I live. It affects how we manage behavior, deal with social complexities, and make personal decisions that achieve positive outcomes. Emotional intelligence is made up of four main skills that couple into two main competencies: personal ability and social ability. Self-awareness and self-management fall into the category of personal skills. Self-awareness is when you are able to know what your emotions are, while self-management is when you take knowledge of your emotions and control them. Social awareness and relationship management fall under the category of social skills. Social awareness is the ability to fully grasp the emotions of others and understand what is going on in that situation, and relationship management is when you are able to discern what the other is feeling allowing your relationship with them to become more strong. One lesson we learned in JROTC was about the “winning colors,” red, blue, brown, and green. During this lesson I learned that my personality corresponds to the colors blue and green which mean relational and planner. I have had many chances to build and shape my own behaviors by being able to help my classmates with things that might bother them and trying to do my best to help others. My relational behavior allowed me to get to know and get closer to the cadets of my battalion. Getting closer to them allowed me to help them with their needs. Now I know I can help my city in ways I never imagined I could. Knowing what my abilities are has revealed to me all the things I can do to help others in my community. Even the small act of saying hello to a person that may not be considered normal helps that person. Having the ability to see someone for who they truly are and not their differences can make a person feel good about themselves. Even the small act of being friendly has positive repercussions for the giver. Please note: this is just an example. Get a custom paper from our expert writers now. Our leaders dedicate themselves to our lessons without asking us nothing in return. A common misconception is that if one goes through the JROTC, they must then join the military. They also teach that to be a better citizen you have to give without asking for anything in return This is the main lesson in the JROTC lesson.
