Over the last sixteen years, I have faced various challenges that have shaped my personality as it is today. I went through a very difficult phase in my social life when I was in seventh and eighth grade at the age of twelve and thirteen. I had a group of five friends outside of school, we were always together and they were all very close to my heart. It got to the point where three girls decided they didn't want to date each other, and I was forced to choose between the three of them and the other girl. It was an indescribable feeling of disbelief and I didn't know what to do. This incident was a challenge I had to overcome. It all happened so fast. One minute she was a dear friend of ours and the next minute everyone was yelling at her. At first I just stood there and listened. I didn't utter a single word. And then, in the heat of the moment, I started saying things to her. I didn't even know where it came from. There was a pause, and that's when I realized what was happening. Say no to plagiarism. Even though I didn't say as much as others, I said something. I had hurt my friend. In the blink of an eye, she was no longer my friend and I knew things would never be the same again. I couldn't let things stay as they were. That night I reflected on the incident while sitting in my bed. Things could have gone differently. It wasn't supposed to be this way. I could have done something or said anything to change things. Questions filled my head, all I could feel was guilt and an empty feeling in my heart. I decided I had to do something, I couldn't just sit back knowing my good friend felt so low and unwanted. Something told me that it was up to me to change things and make things right between me and her. Even though the situation seems negative, I managed to learn a very positive lesson. I learned all about complacency and how important it really is. He didn't care about other girls and their relationship with that girl. Once I made amends with her, everything seemed so much better. I've learned that it's important to live my life the way I want and as long as I do that I'll be happy. If I were faced with a similar situation now, I wouldn't let the problem persist. My struggle has taught me to identify situations where drastic changes need to happen and then take steps to remedy the situation. I have gained confidence in myself as a result of this victory and I know that this confidence will always help me overcome the difficult times that lie ahead...
