Topic > A reflection on my volunteering experience

Over the past two years, my involvement in the annual Ramadan fundraiser with Islamic Relief has not only been a volunteering experience but also a profound reflection on the volunteering experience. This organization dedicates its efforts to supporting the marginalized and vulnerable, giving them a voice and addressing the root causes of poverty among other critical issues. During this time, I have engaged in numerous activities aimed at raising vital funds for the organization to achieve its goals. During my volunteering experience, I helped set up stalls with those who had no one to help them, attended unprofitable auctions to collect donations, and took part in a fashion show to entertain the crowd at the fundraiser. Apart from this, I had also dedicated my free time to distributing leaflets with information to raise awareness of the organization and help needed for issues around the world. I also helped create food rations for the less privileged. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an Original Essay During my volunteer experience I was able to help out the organization by joining my mother every year as she planned to attend an Islamic relief event. My commitment was optional, as I voluntarily invested my time during busy school periods or holidays to take part in the organization. Having the opportunity to volunteer was an extremely rewarding experience. By exposing myself to an environment dependent on communication and listening, I strengthened these skills and developed additional personal and professional capabilities. These include decision making in a pressure situation, problem solving when deciding where to place materials (when building stalls), and leadership when a member of the organization delegates a task to me to complete (preparing snacks for rations of food). I have broadened my knowledge and developed greater empathy for others by interacting with those in poverty and the staff who help make changes. I learned how to give back to the community at large by listening to the life experiences members have had. By participating in Islamic Relief, I have developed valuable knowledge and experience that will help me at school, university and in everyday life. Having met many different people along the way in my volunteer experience, I have formed valuable friendships with those who say I made them feel accepted and welcomed by the way I showed up and treated them. Overall, this has encouraged me to do more because knowing that I can have a positive effect on someone's life is rewarding and very inspiring. Please note: this is just an example.
