My pro-choice stance comes from a friend who had to make the decision to have an abortion or carry a pregnancy to term twice. At the age of 15 she became pregnant. She was too young and knew she wasn't ready to become a mother. She had to decide if they wanted to terminate the pregnancy. The choice she made was to carry on with the pregnancy. After giving birth, she gave the baby up for adoption to a family who could not have children of their own. Although she wasn't ready to become a parent, she gave someone else the opportunity to do so. At the age of 19 she became pregnant again, but this time the pregnancy caused health problems. Doctors had told her that if she chose to continue with the pregnancy, she would be at high risk of dying during labor. This time she chose to have an abortion and terminate the pregnancy. Since abortion is legal, she was able to save her life and safely terminate the pregnancy.
