Research Methodology Report My themed research project will focus on the connection between Riot Grrrl and its relationship to third wave feminism. Mainly I aim to analyze the Riot Grrrl music scene, but also its subculture, mentioning its DIY punk ethic, political activism and, above all, its influential Zine network. However, the purpose of this report is to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of three research methodologies and how I will apply each of them with respect to my project. I will first investigate the benefits of an instrumental case study, looking at how it proliferates, rather than restricts a given field of study. Secondly, I will delve deeper into symbolic interactionism by referring to some influential figures involved in this methodology, as well as providing an example related to my topic. Finally, I will clarify the subtle difference between text linguistics and discourse analysis, concluding on why I chose the latter in my research. One qualitative research method I will use is a case study. The purpose of my case study is to highlight the key components of the Riot Grrrl movement in the 1990s. Thomas defines a case study as: “An analysis of people, events, decisions, periods… in which a study is conducted and the case is illuminated and explained.” (1) With the Riot Grrrl movement of the early 1990s providing my case study Over an analytical time frame I will be able to assemble a detailed collection of contextual analyzes on some of the formal, behavioral, sociological and ideological factors that opened the road to third wave feminism. However, I must point out that my primary purpose is not to define Riot Grrrl (a task that is almost as futile as trying to generalize the Third-W... half of the paper... 6 (December 1969), pp. 922-934( 11) Andrew Graham-Dixon, “Say It With Flowers.” – Symbolism- The Independent, 1 September 1992(12) Joanne Gottlieb and Gayle Wald – Riot Grrrls, Revolution and women in rock p359The Popular Music Studies ReaderRoutledge 3rd revised edition (26 October 2005 )(13) Fasold, R.
