Analysis As I Lay DyingWilliam Faulkner is one of the most intense writers with the strangest writing style of his period. He was born September 25, 1897 in New Albany, Mississippi. When he began writing and producing As I Lay Dying, it was in the era of Modernism. Many critics say this novel was poorly made and difficult to follow, but the thoughts behind this story are good. He has some messed up stuff in this story, there's even a part where he punches holes in his dead mother's face by accident. William Faulkner was considered a great author even though the execution of his novel was mediocre. William Faulkner published As I Lay Dying along with twelve other famous novels and many short stories; and continuing on this path he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1950 during the era of Modernism. William Faulkner was born on September 25, 1897 in New Albany, Mississippi. He is the first of four children. "He was named after his great-grandfather, William Clark Falkner, the "old colonel," who had been killed eight years earlier in a duel with his former business partner in the streets of Ripley, Mississippi. Lawyer, politician, planter, man of businessman, Civil War colonel, railroad financier, and ultimately best-selling writer (of the novel The White Rose of Memphis), the Old Colonel, even in death, loomed as an extraordinary model of personal and professional success for the his male descendants.” (“William Faulkner” 2013) When he was a five-year-old, his father bought the Oxford bank. His family became very rich because of it his life, or his life as a writer. if in his middle age there were many events that changed him. William Faulkner did not have the hard life...... middle of the paper......novel , you see he looks at life as the so-called “bad boy” and death is the rather welcomed “good boy”. It's hard to capture that idea in this novel. William Faulkner published As I Lay Dying along with many other novels from the beginning of the era of Modernism, and following this path he won a Nobel Prize in 1950. Critics have said that he does poorly on most of his novels. They may be long, but they say they are hard to follow and quite boring. As I Lay Dying had a great idea, but its execution was poorly crafted and the images Faulkner tries to convey were difficult to imagine. Even though the execution of this novel was a disaster, many people can see past the execution and give him credit for the thoughts behind this, and basically call it a masterpiece of smut. Furthermore, he was a great author for ideas, but not for execution.
