LGBT and gender equalityBehind every controversial controversy there is a story that precedes it. Many political discussions, protests, and disputes take place during any disagreement. Especially if it's national. All over the world, in today's society, there is a lot of discrimination. Arguments and disagreements are usually caused by closed-minded and opinionated people. Problems at the national level are accompanied by numerous controversies on various topics. One topic, for example, could be the legalization of gay marriage in all 50 states. To date, only 17 states have legalized same-sex marriage, and 33 states have banned same-sex marriage. (In America 3) In the following article, gender equality between men and women, but also regarding gays and transgender people, will be discussed. Gender equality is a well-known issue in today's society. Not only today, but also in the past. In past history, homosexuals were not considered equal and were denied civil rights. History has shown that gay people have always been discriminated against. In religious eyes, homosexuals are committing a sinful act because the Bible says you must go out and have children and two homosexuals cannot physically reproduce together. (Nguyen, Minh T. 1) That said, this demonstrates why there would be religious conflict over same-sex marriage. Another nationwide issue should be women's rights. Just as gays were discriminated against, women were also discriminated against. Gender equality is first and foremost a human right. In the past, women were discriminated against. For example, until the 1700s women could not vote. They were classified as the weaker sex and were known simply as an object. Just as women are called “the second… half of the card… rights should be no different, especially since a married gay couple does not harm any other couple or their acquaintances. That said, non-LGBT people should not only be able to marry in all 50 states, but they should also enjoy all the civil rights that come with marriage and all the financial benefits of a legal marriage. Freedom is not only something that must be felt but also something that must be publicly recognized. The nation is slowly progressing and changing around us. People classified in the LGBT group should continue to fight for their rights just as women did in the 1700s. Surely, but slowly, progress will come to have a huge impact in our nation as we know it. All men are created equal, so all men should be treated equally and have the same civil rights as any other American.
