1 Evolution of clothing in Sri Lanka over the centuries including the factors that influenced these changes. The evolution of clothing occurred due to climate, availability of plants and animals, improvement of markets and market accessibility. The Early Stone Age has three phases: Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic. The Stone Age lifestyle involved hunters/scavengers and food gatherers with fewer technological changes. They used sewing needles made of fur and other types of materials to protect themselves from cold climates. Sewing needles made with clustered holes provide a path to the evolution of clothing. Most clothes are made of leather that decomposes in the soil after some time and can withstand adverse weather conditions. Neanderthals must adapt to drastic climatic conditions, mainly cold climates. During this period the earth's temperature gradually increases creating an ice age across Europe and Asia. Neanderthals tanned animal skins to make leather. Although they did not have fine needles for stitching leather, their skill at making stones and wool was simple enough to produce sharp piercing objects for threading laces. They used thick hairy animal skins to keep their bodies warm and dry. They made the clothes by cutting the skins into desired shapes, making holes for the head and arms, and draping the body. In the Iron Age, iron became the most common thing, and the development of sewing needles led to the construction of Roman clothing. Analysis of the bog bodies shows that dyed clothes have become fashionable as opposed to only clothes made from natural white, brown and gray wool. Instead the clothes were colorful and patterned because man's needs had become complex and people had become fashionable...... middle of paper......ce disappeared and men's trousers were padded to match the skirt for women, and women became more feminine with glamorous silhouettes. Until the 18th century, men's clothing was covered up with the introduction of the neoclassical movement and tighter, more exposed clothing was worn. Then the technology developed and tied the skins with belts and the fur on themselves. At this stage the main purpose of clothing was the protection of the body. The evolution of clothing began when stones, bones and other sharp tools began to shrink and deteriorate. During this era their occupation became agriculture. Stone tools were polished and copper was used for the first time. The atmospheric temperature and the evolution of the instruments influence their wear. Clothing evolved from heavy clothing to lighter, cooler materials that could be sewn quickly.
