104 men were on board. after just over a month of navigation, Columbus and several members of the crew set foot in what is now the Bahamas, claiming that it was Spain. 1493 was Columbus' second expedition and explored more of the Caribbean ocean. Columbus discovered some interesting things on this voyage: the settlement of the Navidad had been destroyed, and every single sailor on board had been massacred. he forced labor policy on the native population in search of gold, thinking it would prove profitable. Columbus earned hatred for small amounts of gold from the native population. It was not until his third voyage that Columbus reached land, but the settlement of Hispaniola had been deceived by Columbus's claims of wealth and the mismanagement of his brothers. from here Columbus was arrested and deprived of his authority. the charges were eventually dropped but he lost the title of governor and much of the wealth he had accumulated during his reign
