Uses many different symbols, such as the conch, Piggy's glasses, and fire to show the theme that evil is found within all of us. Readers notice, over the course of the novel, a change in the way the boys behave. At the beginning of the novel they are well civilized boys but as their fear grows and without guidance their ferocity begins to grow too. The use of symbols helps show this change in kids.
