Both contributed to large-scale education by clarifying cognitive development and learning styles. Although both theorists were constructivists, Piaget focused on the constructive processes in the child's mind, while Vygotsky focused on the socially constructed nature of cognitive development. Incorporating these theories into the classroom environment will take advantage of the child's natural curiosity. Another difference between the two included Piaget's focus on individual functioning and Vygotsky's emphasis on the connection between the child's cognitive development and the influence of the child's sociocultural environment. Piaget, however, considered some views of the social environment, such as communication between peers, simply not as comprehensive as Vygotsky. These differences might lead an educator to model strategies according to one theorist rather than another.
